Ballew, age 26, of 1526 W Mlk, plead guilty and was sentenced to jail for cropping
the ears on 3 pit bulls in a "cruel and inhumane" manner.
Ballew was sentenced to 320 days in jail and ordered to pay a $4,000 fine for
the 3 misdemeanor animal cruelty charges. Ballew was training dogs to
fight.
Ballew was also sentenced to 260 days in jail and fined for resisting arrest, evading arrest, 2 counts of drug possession and driving without a valid license.
Ballew, DOB 10/30/79, used a TV console table to cut the ears of the dogs. The ACO found bloody rags, pieces of the ears, along with a pocket knife, large kitchen knife and a needle and thread. The dogs heads were wrapped in duct tape. 1 of the dogs was on such a short leash that it could not lie don without chocking and had no water or shelter. An 8-week old puppy was also found so tangled in a fence that it could not move. It also did not have food, water or shelter.
Ballew was back in the Brazos County Jail on May 24th - 1 week after leaving his cell on work release.
Ballew is no stranger to jail - the cases are listed as follows:
on 10/29/97 a motion to revoke probation - a 2nd degree felony was filed and sentenced to 5 years in the Texas Department of Corrections
on 2/23/98 Ballew was charged with evading arrest - a class B misdemeanor, paid a $300.00 bond on 7/10/98 and sentenced to 100 days in jail.
on 1/29/99 Ballew was charged with theft of less than $500 - a class B misdemeanor and on 8/11/99 the case was dismissed for lack of evidence
on 8/16/99 charged with criminal trespass - a class B misdemeanor, found guilt yon 2/21/00 and sentenced to 125 days in jail and on 10/14/99 he failed to appear in court for this case
on 10/15/99 Ballew was charged with criminal trespass - a class B misdemeanor, found guilty on 2/21/00 and sentenced to 125 day in jail
on 4/12/00 charged with Possession and evading arrest, found guilty on 6/7/00 and sentenced to 1 year in jail
on 6/27/02 he was sentenced to 1 year in jail for Unauthorized Use of a vehicle a state felony
on 9/29/03 Ballew was charged with tampering/fabrication of physical evidence with intent to impair - a 3rd degree felony. The case was dismissed and refiled on 5/17/04 - Ballew plead guilty and issued a warning by the magistrate on 2/5/04
on 9/29/04 Ballew was charged with less than 2oz of marijuana - a 3rd degree felony, found guilty on 5/24/04 and sentenced to 180 days in jail
on 10/3/04 Ballew was charged with possession of 0-2oz marijuana - a class B misdemeanor - on 7/6/05 failed to appear in court and on 9/1/05 plead guilty and sentenced to 180 days in jail
on 7/29/05 Ballew was charged with Evading arrest - a class B misdemeanor, plead guilty on 9/1/05 and jailed for 180 day
on 3/27/06 Ballew was charged with possession of 0-2oz of Marijuana - a class B misdemeanor and was plead guilty on 5/4/06, fined $2000 and sentenced to 180 days in jail. Also on 3/27/06 Ballew was charged with DWLI a misdemeanor, paid a $2000 bond and on 5/4/06 plead guilty, fined $500 and sentenced to 3 days in jail.
Update 6/12/06:
Ballew plead guilty to to possession of 0-2 oz of Marijuana - a class B misdemeanor and sentenced to 180 days in jail
