Alexander Davis and Evelyn Jeanette Williams

Burned a dog to death in an oven in the commission of a burglary

Chatham, GA

Aug 25,  2005

(photo courtesy of WTOC TV) Angela DeLettre called police to report that her home had been broken into.  DeLettre came home to find her back door open, items missing and the kitchen sink overflowing.  She found one of her dogs safe but the other was missing.  Investigators found her dog Zoe, a 1-year-old rat terrier burned to death in the oven.  The oven had been set to 400 degrees.  The burglars left the water running in the house, just to case further damage.

The police received an anonymous tip from a watchful neighbor.

Davis and Williams were found at a pawn shop trying to sell the stolen items.

The case has been sent to Chatham County Superior Court because Davis has waived his right to a preliminary hearing on the charges.

Davis and (photo' courtesy of WTOC TV) Williams were arraigned on the charges and as of 9/3/05 were still in jail.

Spencer Lawton, Jr. the district attorney, has received over 3000+ signatures on a petition to ask for the maximum 5-year sentence for the animal cruelty charge.

The items stolen were found in Davis’ car.  Davis, age 19, is also charged in connection with 6 other home burglaries.

Williams, age 24, has been charged with theft by receiving stolen property but not the animal cruelty charge.
