One city woman is likely wishing she had been nicer to her pet.  Police arrested Arlene Wallace, 34, of 93 Chandler St., Apt. 3, on felony drug charges after being called to her home for an animal-abuse complaint, police said.

Nashua police Lt. Scott Hammond declined to specify what Wallace is accused of doing to the cat that generated the call to police, but said police took custody of the animal and took it to the Animal Hospital of Nashua.

“Let’s just leave it that she was mistreating the cat enough that we had to bring it to the hospital,” he said.

The manager of the Animal Hospital of Nashua was not immediately available for comment. A woman who answered the phone there said the hospital is not allowed to release information about animals involved in alleged abuse cases unless the animal was surrendered to the facility.

After police arrived, Wallace returned home and officers noticed what they believed were items used in drug trafficking in her car, Hammond said, and the car was impounded.

Police had Wallace’s Jeep towed to the departments impound lot and then applied for and were granted a search warrant, Hammond said.

The search turned up about a half ounce of crack cocaine and smaller quantities of Suboxone, Vicodin and Subutex and cash, police said.

The crack cocaine was packaged into smaller quantities for resale, police said.   Hammond declined to say how much cash was seized.

Vicodin is a narcotic painkiller that contains hydrocodone, according to Drugs.com. Subutex and Suboxone are both forms of buprenorphine, which is similar to morphine and is used to treat narcotic addiction, according to the site.

Wallace was held at the Nashua Police Department and arraigned at Nashua District Court, police said. She is being held now at the Hillsborough County jail in Manchester in lieu of $75,000 cash only bail.

Wallace is charged with cruelty to animals, possession of a narcotic drug with intent to distribute and three counts of possession of a controlled drug, police said.
