4 kittens abandoned at Animal Shelter nearly die from blistering heat

Attleboro, MA

August 3, 2006

Four kittens abandoned at the Attleboro Animal Shelter on August 3rd are recovering today after being left in the blistering hot sun with no food or water.

After a shelter adoption night on Wednesday, a shelter volunteer inadvertently left an empty cat carrier outside.  Sometime during the night, someone dropped off the kittens which appear to be between 4-5 weeks old, inside the locked carrier.  The kittens were dirty, full of fleas and starving.

It was pure luck that Animal Control Officer Jeffrey Keefer came by in the morning hours before the hottest part of the day.  The kittens would have died from heat exposure.

All four kittens appear to be in good health and will be ready for adoption at 8 weeks old.
