| Barbara DeGraeve | Failure to properly care of animals | Johnson County, MO | October 12, 2001 |
DeGraeve was charged in city court with cruelty, failure to provide a proper rabies inoculation, having a dog that creates a nuisance and failure to provide adequate shelter.
DeGraeve's home at 9456 Connell Drive is also listed as the office of the National Society for the Protection of Animals.
Animal Control was checking on a complaint of too many animals at the house when they found 60 cats. DeGraeve was told to get veterinary care for some of the cats that had upper respiratory infections.
In June, 2001, DeGraeve helped trap stray cats that were neglected in an East Kansas neighborhood. The group trapped 10 cats, took them to veterinarians for spaying, neutering and vaccinations.
In an article from the Kansas City Pitch in March, 2000, DeGraeve stated her organizations (NSPA) primary focus was cats, housing 55-60 cats and her licensed cat shelter, only sometimes caring for dogs in the Kansas City area.
