Robert Barka, case # 9727884 was convicted on July 29, 1997 of animal cruelty and sentenced to 20 hours of community service at the Humane Society. Barka harbored two dogs, one of, which died from medical neglect - the surviving dog (Sugar Ray) tested positive for heartworm. Both dogs could have avoided this neglect if they had been given medical treatment by a veterinarian while living with Barka.
