Dog poisoned with anti-freeze

Lake Charles, LA

June, 2006

Laura Babineaux recalls one of the last days with her dog Bella, late last month.  She was watering the flowers in her backyard and Bella was in the front yard.  She saw that she had a can in her mouth – it was half one – but she didn’t know if Bella had eaten it or found it that way.

By that evening, Bella was vomiting. She took Bella to the vet and after blood tests were complete, anti-freeze showed up.  It appeared that Bella’s kidneys were shutting down. Bella was kept overnight for observation, but two days later her condition had not improved, leaving no other option but to put her down.

At the advice of her vet, the can was sent to LSU where it was tested and confirmed their suspicions – it was positive for anti-freeze.

After 6-1/2 years together, Laura cannot help but wonder why the senseless act was committed that took the life of her dog.  She has posted dozens of signs throughout her Bilbo Street neighborhood offering a reward and warning other area pet owners.  She plans to press animal cruelty charges if she gets a response.  There is a reward offered for any information about this case, Contact Laura at 337-499-9614
