Two people and their dog where shot to death at the Sand Prairie Campground 5 miles north of the Lane-Douglas county line.
The dog named Caesar accompanied his owner, Stevan Haugen, age 54, wherever he went.
Caesar, Haugen and Jeanette Bauman, age 56 were found by campers near a US Forest Service road, about 25 miles south of Oakridge.
Bauman, was a former Ilwaco High School business teacher who left just one month before to join Haugen near Eugene.
Haugen had taught as a substitute in the Ocean Beach School District and was a counselor and track coach at Westridge Middle School in the Oakridge School District.
The bodies were found off US Forest Service Road 2134, also known as Staley Ridge Road.
Authorities did not release the caliber of weapon used or say how many times they all were shot. They do not have any suspects . Haugen's license plates were removed from his 1997 GMC Jimmy and have been listed as stolen - the plate number is CL47763.
Neighbors of the couple say that Caesar, a chow, golden mix, was like a big, old teddy bear and accompanied Haugen everywhere.
A necropsy was done on the dog to collect evidence in case the dog bit his attackers.
