Animal cruelty charges have been laid against a West Kootenay resident.

A Crestova woman has also been charged after her Chihuahua cross dog was found with a broken leg after allegedly being thrown onto cement.

If convicted, the woman could face a maximum fine of 5-thousand dollars and up to 5 years in jail and a lifetime ban on owning animals.
