Donna Baldasaro

Swindling a $1000+ dog from a breeder

Chelsea, MA

May, 1999

Baldasaro has been charged with larceny and forgery for stealing a puppy worth more than $1000 from a Vermont Doberman breeder.

Baldasaro got the dog from HoMike Pet Motel and Dobermans by using an alias and fake addresses. She faxed Holly and Mike Breer, the owners, a copy of a money order for $1,126 and a copy of the Express Mail envelope she would send the money order in. The 9 month old Doberman named Denna was then shipped to MA but when the Breers opened the envelope it contained only an empty business envelope with the words "ha, ha" written on it. According to the police the faxed money order was an altered $2 order.

Police got a security camera picture of the women from the bank where the money order was purchased. The picture was then distributed to police throughout New England. New Hampshire police identified the woman and she was arrested.

Baldasaro is also suspected of swindling the Breers in 1995. In that scam, Baldasaro used her own name, wired money to the Breers but the check later bounced. That dog was never recovered.
