Cockatoo left in car perishes from heat

Donia Monique Brooks, 25, of Stafford, VA took a trip to the movies and ended up with being charged with animal cruelty and release on a Summons on Saturday, July 22^nd.

The Fredericksburg Police received a call around 5:20 pm reporting that someone had left a Cockatoo, in a cage, in the backseat of a car at the Fredericksburg 15 Movie Theater in Central Park.  The temperature that day was recorded at 90 degrees with a heat index of 97 degrees.

Police arrived to find all windows up in the car, except for a one-inch crack in the driver’s seat window.  They were unable to open the car, though the bird had expired.
