Kitten burned with gasoline and motor oil

Butler County, OH

July 14, 2006

On the evening of July 14th, a neighborhood girl in Butler County pointed out a kitten in her yard.  The kitten was barely recognizable.  As Laurie O’Brien, a neighbor, came to aid of the girl and the kitten, she could smell the kitten reeked of gasoline and motor oil and saw that it was partially burned.

Though O’Brien is allergic to cats, she took the kitten and tried to bathe it but could only remove some of the oil. She then took the kitten to Care Emergency Pet Clinic in Blue, OH.  She waited over 3 hours as veterinarians treated the kitten’s burns, malnourishment and dehydration.  They were able to remove the remaining oil, which revealed a gray kitten with white underbelly, paws and nose.  O’Brien and a neighbor split the $100 vet bill which had been steeply discounted.

The 8-week old kitten has been adopted by O’Brien’s mother, Linda Tortorici, who lives near Dayton, Ohio. After two tense days, the kitten finally perked up and is doing well.
