Unknown 10-13 year old West Highland Terrier mix found covered in feces Manchester, NH October 17, 2007

(Photo courtesy of Elliot's adopter, when he first arrived at his new home)  A 10-13-year-old West Highland Terrier mix was found in a yard on the corner of Lake Avenue and Belmont St. in Manchester.  The dog was covered in feces and matted.  More than 1/2 of his body weight was matted fur.

(Photo courtesy of WMUR)  The shelter staff named the dog Elliot when they cut 6 pounds of matted fur off the little body.  It took hours to groom Elliot and his nails were 5 inches in length. Elliot's muscles had atrophied because of all the weight his little body was forced to carry.  The shelter staff believes he had been neglected for up to 2 years in order to have gotten to this state.  However, whomever did own him prior to his being found fed him which is baffling to everyone caring for this wonderful little guy.
