Gabriel Class

Family dog shot by Border Patrol Agent

West La Paz, AZ Cochise County

August 5, 2006

A family dog was shot three times by Gabriel Class, an off-duty Border Patrol Agent who stated he was attacked on Saturday, August 5th.  City Police responded to the 500 block of West La Paz where the one-year old dog had escaped from its owner’s yard.

Class told Police that the dog attempted to bite him and he shot it.  Within 30 feet of the incident were two children.

Chief of Police Jake Weaver stated that the case is being forwarded to the Cochise County Attorney’s Office to determine if charges will be prosecuted as either felony or misdemeanor. Possible charges could range from endangerment to disorderly conduct with a weapon.

While it is illegal to shoot a gun within city limits, state law allows it if a person is trying to defend himself against an animal attack.
