Misdemeanor  3 charged with drug possession 26 roosters

Authorities have arrested 16 people, including two juveniles, after breaking up a cockfighting ring in Pike County.

Sheriff Mark Shepherd says his office received a tip about a cockfight going on behind a Pike County home on Magnolia-Holmesville Rd. When deputies arrived at the home, Shepherd says cockfights were in progress. Three suspects fled but were later arrested.

Shepherd says deputies seized 26 roosters and cockfighting paraphernalia such as spurs and scales used to weigh the birds, along with about $3,800.  3 birds were found dead.  The surviving roosters were taken to a local farm.

Shepherd described the ring as a pen made of 4 sheets of metal located in a field behind a house.

Authorities have arrested 16 people, including two juveniles, after breaking up an alleged cockfighting ring in Pike County.  Several of the adults charged in this case are from Louisiana.

Cockfighting is a misdemeanor offense in Mississippi.

Lamparski, Martineau & Nadeau were released on bonds of $1,800 each while the others released on $1,500 bond each.

Lamparski, Martineau & Nadeau were also charged with possession of less than an ounce of marijuana.
