Sheriff Mark Shepherd says his office received a tip about a cockfight going on behind a Pike County home on Magnolia-Holmesville Rd. When deputies arrived at the home, Shepherd says cockfights were in progress. Three suspects fled but were later arrested.
Shepherd says deputies seized 26 roosters and cockfighting paraphernalia such as spurs and scales used to weigh the birds, along with about $3,800. 3 birds were found dead. The surviving roosters were taken to a local farm.
Shepherd described the ring as a pen made of 4 sheets of metal located in a field behind a house.
