Hurd, age 54 used a high powered rifle to shoot a German shepherd that chased a wild turkey onto his property.  The dog was shot more than once.

In 2007, Hurd was also charged with shooting to death a Labrador retriever.

Hurd has also been charged with 2 counts of malicious destruction of property.
