A man who said his dog bit him shot the animal twice in his yard, killing it, according to Chippewa Falls Police.
Jack L. Jerry, 50, was arrested for first degree endangering safety by use of a firearm, second degree reckless endangering safety, intentional mistreatment of animals and disorderly conduct.
A woman who lives on the 400 block of Woodward Avenue reported she had heard gun shots followed by a dog whimpering, according to a police department log entry.
When police arrived on scene at 426 Chippewa St., they found Jerry outside unarmed. He cooperated with officers.
Jerry said his black and white springer spaniel had bit him, so he decided to shoot the dog in a side yard next to his garage.
“He went outside with a .22 (rifle), shot the dog, and for whatever reason returned to the house, retrieved a shotgun and shot the dog again,” Lt. John Liddell said.
Alcohol is believed to be involved, and it appears Jerry was the only person at the residence.
