James Reynolds bestiality, animal cruelty at hog farm

A bizarre act leads to charges against a Bainbridge man. Sixty-two year-old James Reynolds is charged with animal cruelty and bestiality.

Police say Reynolds jumped a fence at a stockyard and had sex with a hog.

"I've never heard of anything like this, this is actually the first case I've ever personally had to prosecute of this nature, but I guess in the same sense, it's not necessarily that unusual for his case, because he's been arrested for the same conduct with animals before," said Joe Mulholland, Decatur Co. District Attorney.

If found guilty, he could face up to 10 years in prison.

Update 3/16/06:  Tuesday must have been one of those mornings for James Reynolds of 1811 Belcher Lane.

Reynolds was riding his bicycle along, some beer in him and more on his bicycle, when he spotted a Live Stock Barn on Butler Ferry Road.

Parking his bike in the back, he jumped a locked fence in the barn.

Public Safety Cpl Michael Pollock charged James Reynolds, a 62 year old white male, of 1811 Belcher Lane was charged with cruelty to animal and bestiality.

It was reported to us that several years ago James Reynolds had, an encounter with a dog where he had the same charges.

Update 8/17/06:  Remember the man accused of having sex with a hog? He showed up in court Thursday without his shoes.

Sixty two year old James Reynolds was actually due in court in Bainbridge Wednesday on animal cruelty and bestiality charges. But he failed to show up. Police picked him up Thursday and he refused to put on his shoes.

"He is a criminal, that abuses animals, children, other adults, he's just a sick and twisted individual that needs to be taken off the streets," said Joseph Mulholland, District Attorney.

In March, Reynolds was accused of climbing the fence of a Decatur County livestock yard and having sex with the hog. Prosecutors say it wasn't his first arrest on charges of having sex with an animal.

Thursday, a superior court judge made no ruling after hearing arguments from both sides in the felony bench trial.

Update 9/27/06:  A bizarre story we told you about has finally come to an end. That man in Bainbridge, accused of having sex with a hog, is off the hook.

Sixty-two-year old James Reynolds was charged with animal cruelty and bestiality in March. A hog farmer says he saw Reynolds having sex with one of his hogs.

But Reynolds claimed he was just urinating in the hog pen.

Judge J. Richard Porter ruled in Reynolds' favor, finding him not guilty. The judge cited discrepancies in the hog owner's eyewitness testimony.
