A Fort Collins man is facing charges after police say he hit his girlfriend and then threw a pet ferret against a wall, killing it.

Fort Collins police spokeswoman Rita Davis said Romo faces charges of assault, animal cruelty and domestic violence.

"During the course of an argument, Romo allegedly hit the victim, kicked the ferret cage and threw the animal against the wall, killing the animal," Davis said.

Romo was arrested at a home in the 300 block of Oak Street in Fort Collins. He's being held on a $300 cash bond at the Larimer County Detention Center.
