71-year old Luis Vega of Macedon pleaded guilty to one count of
felony animal fighting in Wayne County Court on Thursday, July 20th
for running an underground cockfighting ring at this home. In March,
Vega was charged with 118 counts of felony and
misdemeanor animal cruelty. He
had been running a cockfighting ring for several years in a barn behind his
home.
After entering the plea before
Judge John Nesbitt, he was sentenced to spend 90 days of weekends
in Wayne County Jail, followed by 5 years probation. Vega was also ordered to pay a $5,000 fine and
$1,300 in restitution to the Humane Society of Greater Rochester for the care
of 59 roosters seized in March. The roosters were later euthanized.
