On September 15, 1997, Carol was convicted on 3 counts of Cruelty to Animals. Her husband Joseph was convicted on 13 counts of "offensive matters" Further Carol received a $100 fine and an order that she cannot own animals for six years. Joseph received a $100 fine and cannot own animals for 13 years. The animals were all adopted out to the public. Ms. LaCasse currently has several motions on file concerning an appeal to the NH Supreme Court.
On Saturday, June 14, 1997 The LaCasse's were arrested on eight counts of animal cruelty, Class B Misdemeanors, which holds a potential maximum penalty of $1,2000 fine on each charge. Carol LaCasse's arraignment was held on August 4, 1997 in Berlin District Court where she was released on $2,000 personal recognizance bail pending her court appearance.
The charges pending range from failing to provide adequate sustenance to animals, to failing to provide adequate medical care and housing animals in inhumane conditions.
The 200+ animals included dogs, cats, horses, goats, pigs, rabbits, sheep and fowl removed from 303 Cates Hill Rd., Berlin, NH.
