The abandonment of a female Doberman-mix suffering from bone cancer and malnutrition

Nashua, NH

June 9, 1997

This is "Lady," a precious female Doberman-mix who left this world peacefully in her sleep on June 9, 1997.

Lady was found hobbling down Main Street in Nashua in early June and brought to the Humane Society of New England. It was obvious at first glance that Lady was in very bad shape and very likely in great pain. But despite her agony, Lady wagged her tail and tried so hard to please the staff at the shelter.

Based on clinical signs, the veterinarian presumed that Lady was suffering from osteosarcoma (bone cancer of the knee), a hyperthyroid condition, arthritis, and malnutrition; Lady was also partially deaf. Lady looked to be at least 14 or 15 years old, but the vet estimated her age at no more than 7 or 8.

Lady is the apparent victim of severe neglect—a breeding bitch who obviously outlived her usefulness to her cruel and sadistic owner—who then released her to the streets to meet up with whatever fate would befall her malnourished and pain-wracked body.

Lady has left this earth. Gone on to a better place where she'll feel no more pain and will no longer be abused or neglected. No longer to serve as a "cash cow" for the heartless and cruel mankind she so meekly and diligently served. Lady is in the place of the Rainbow Bridge now. A land of meadows and hills and valleys with lush green grass. A place where there is always food and water and warm spring weather, where she can be young and fit again. A place where she can play all day and never have another worry.

Lady serves as a sad memorial to a society that would inflict such cruelty and inhumanity to God's creatures. Please…help us stop the suffering. Help all the defenseless creatures like Lady that wag their tails in spite of their fate. Help the Lady's of the world to live a better life. If you see an animal being neglected or mistreated, please call your local animal control officer or humane society before it's too late.

If anyone has information regarding this case and Lady’s abuser, please contact the Humane Society for Greater Nashua
