Northwood, NH |
Apr. 20, 1997 |
Lord has been charged with cruelty, A Class B misdemeanor for abandoning 5 dogs during the winter. She was released on her own recognizance and appeared on May 6, 1997 In Auburn District Court. Lord left the dogs in a trailer on an isolated dirt road near Pleasant Lake. There was no running water or septic system and she had only a seasonal permit to live on the land from April to October. The permit, was revoked and the property was condemned by health officials
The dogs - an Irish wolfhound, 2 black Labs (one was pregnant) a German shepherd and a pit bull were placed in the temporary custody of the NHSPCA in Stratham. The Northwood Animal Control Officer said neighbors had complained for more than five years.
The Officers further investigation had uncovered that Lord continually replaced animals, including dogs, sheep and birds, which died in her care.
On 9/12/97 in Auburn District Court (Docket No 97-CR-00793) Lord pleaded guilty and the case was placed on file for one year pending "good behavior" that being not owning or having physical possession and control of a dog on a permanent basis without the approval of the animal control officer in the town or city she resides in.
Neighbors had complained for more than 5 years, but nothing was done until the animal control officer arrived at the property recently to investigate the latest complaint and found the stench from the place was unbelievable.
