Animal neglect on 26 cats

Amity, OR

July 28, 2000

Chandler, age 47 had 26 cats cooped up her single wide mobile home. One of the cats had died, and the rest were found dehydrated, ill and emaciated. The cats had swollen eyes, dental infections, upper respiratory infections, rashes and matted fur. At least 2 of the cats are pregnant and a number of them have not been neutered.

Chandler is charged with first-degree animal neglect. She forfeited the cats on August 14 to the Evergreen-Doe animal shelter.

The cats will not be put down, as Evergreen-Doe is a no kill shelter. If you would like to contribute to the care of these cats call the shelter at 503-472-6171 and ask about Hope's fund.

Update April 20, 2002: Chandler was found guilty and given 2 years probation. She must also pay a fine and pay restitution for the care of the animals to the Evergreen-Doe animal shelter.
