NYC dog eats meat filled with pins

New York City, NY   New York City County

August 9, 2006

On Wednesday, August 9th, Martha Redding, 38, and her 6-year old Labrador retriever, Milo, were walking in Central Park when Milo grabbed a brown bag wrapped with ribbon and started to eat what he found inside.  Redding pulled it out of his mouth and away from him.  When she picked up the meat to throw it away, she found it was full of pins.

Redding took Milo to a veterinarian who fed him three cans of dog food and induced the dog to vomit, safely removing the pins.  Milo had swallowed at least 30 pins, some of which were 3 inches long.

Special Agent Joseph Pentangelo of the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals stated his agency is investigating.

Milo is recovering from the incident
