Sacrifice prevented with seizure of farm animals from Buffalo apartment

Buffalo, NY

August 2, 2006

Neighbors thought that the residents living in an apartment at 113 16th Street in Buffalo were involved in animal fighting when they observed someone bringing live chickens into the home late Wednesday evening, August 2nd.

When police arrived, they uncovered that the animals were going to be used for something else.  Buffalo Police Lt. David Stabler stated that the animals would be sacrificed. They would cut them open, cook the meat and they would all partake and eat.  The five immigrants from Uzbekistan were going to kill the animals and eat them as part of a religious ceremony.

Buffalo Wildlife Control Office Frank Poincelot stated that you cannot sacrifice in the city. It is not the intention of the city to stop their rituals, but there are laws that have to be followed.

Charges are pending in the case.
