Young
dog found with leash imbedded in neck |
Plattsburgh, NY |
July 21, 2006 |
A young black and gray female terrier
mix as rescued by Darren Stucker and his 12-year old son while out walking
their dog Friday afternoon, July 21st in the Breslau section of Hanover Township. They saw the dog heading for the woods,
called to it and it came to them with tail wagging.
They were shocked to find a wire
noose wrapped tightly around its neck, deeply imbedded into the skin.
The dog as wheezing and had maggots crawling into the skin. The dog
was immediately taken to the Luzerne County SPCA. The dog as then brought into the Pittston Animal Hospital here Dr. Inayat Kathio operated on the animal
that afternoon. Dr. Kathio, a veterinarian for almost 30 years stated
that this as the worst case of animal abuse he had sever seen. He believes
that it is most likely that the dog had been dragged behind a vehicle, based
on its injuries. Not only did the animal have maggots on the neck wound,
but in its eyes, ears and anus.
The 10-guage-wire leash imbedded
in the dog’s neck had cut all the way through the neck muscles, severing the
left jugular vein – exposing the spine. Additional wounds on the dog
appeared to be several weeks to a month old and the dog had lost most of its
blood. Dr. Kathio stated he as surprised the 2-year-old dog
was still alive under these conditions.
The dog is in stable condition
and as walking around after its surgery. Stucker and his son are searching
to find it a good home.
Dr. Kathio is offering a $3,000 reward for information
leading to the identification of the person or persons responsible for abusing
the dog. Call 570-821=9390.
