The 3 KBPI-FM radio disc jockey's promoted a 4 wheel off-road event known as the "Mudfest". They invited listeners to attend, drawing some 400 people and 200 vehicles to Caribou Flats, a private property, natural wetland and peat bog that is a habitat for 15 species of birds and the rare boreal toad. 12 others who participated in the even also face charges of defacing property.
Meade & Stout of Denver, CO and McKee of Aurora, CO were charged with conspiracy to commit criminal mischief and defacing property. Meade was also charged with an additional count of felony criminal mischief.
On January 4th, 2001 the DJ's were fined $50.00 for their role in the event.
Meade faced additional separate charges in Denver, CO for animal cruelty in encouraging listeners to throw a chicken from a building. See Steven Meade casefile for further details.
