Two dogs left in poor conditions by their owners

Sweetwater, TX

July 26, 2006

Sweetwater Animal Control recently received a citizen’s complaint that two dogs were in distress in the back yard of a residence in the 900 block of Lou.  Sweetwater Police are now involved due to the poor condition of the dogs.

Animal Control attempted to contact the owners of the animals but received no response, and later fed and watered the animals.  During a follow up visit on Thursday, July 27th, Animal Control found the dogs still in distress.  SPD Detective Donnie Clark responded to investigate the case.

Clark discovered the dogs to be thin, appearing malnourished and subject to flea infestation. Both dogs were chained to a nearby tree in the yard.  The chain used on the dogs was strong enough to tow a vehicle.

Clark attempted to contact the owners, again with no response, thus he notified Animal Control to seize the dogs.  The animals were taken to a local veterinarian who confirmed suspicions that the dogs were being neglected.

Both dogs are currently being housed at the Sweetwater City Animal Shelter and cannot be released pending the outcome of the investigation.  Criminal cases of cruelty to animals have been filed against two separate owners of the dogs.
