Dog left in motel room for two days

  (Photo courtesy of NY Sex Offender Registry)  Vincent Calcagno, 42 from Tennessee has been charged by the Ulster County Sheriff’s Department with animal abandonment, failure to provide food and sustenance to an animal, and theft of services for not paying for a room.  The charges are all misdemeanors.

On July 30th, the Ulster County Sheriff’s Deputies found an adult German Shepherd in the motel room without food or water, after receiving a complaint from a Kerhonkson Motel owner. The dog had been left there for 2 days.

The dog was turned over to Ulster County SPCA and Calcagno was issued appearance tickets to appear in Wawarsing Town Court. 

Update:  12/30/06:

Calcagno was arrested on 2 warrants for failure to change address as a sex offender, resisting arrest and bail jumping.  He was released after posting a $700 bail.  Calcagno's name appears on the NY sex offender registry because of a conviction in July 1999 for 3rd degree rape of a female, 16 years old.  Calcagno was sentenced to 270 days in jail.
