Unknown injured malamute pup abandoned

Morgantown, WV

Monongalia County

November 26, 2008

The Monongalia County Sheriff's Department is investigating a disturbing crime involving a 10-week old puppy.

Deputies say on Thanksgiving day someone left a malamute puppy, bleeding, sick and with no shelter outside of the Mountaineer Pet Care Center and Mountaineer Veterinary Clinic.

Security footage showed a silver Jeep Cherokee with tinted windows driving away from the scene.

The Sheriff's Department has filed an animal cruelty report about the incident but still needs more information.

The Mountaineer Pet Care Center is also offering a reward for any information that leads to the conviction of those responsible.

You can call 304-296-1677 with information.

Update from the Mountaineer Pet Care Center:  The people pulled in driving a Silver Jeep Grand Cherokee and threw the dog out. Like trash. They didn't stop and make sure it was in a safe place, or far enough from the road to not get killed. They were present 2 minutes total.

The puppy was left in front of a closed facility, in the dark, with open seeping wounds, on a bloody blanket. They also threw out part of a bag of adult dog food.

They didn't take time to leave the animal in an enclosure (which was present at the site), or put it in a box so that it didn't make it to the road. The puppy was found by sheer luck. An employee passed it, NOT IN A BLANKET, on the pavement, on the way to the dumpster.

It wasn't a case of trying to find a good place for the pet, it was not wanting to be bothered with a malnourished, injured dog with bleeding, smelling and infected wounds.

Also a million thanks to Jim Minger, DVM at Mountaineer Veterinary for donating all of the puppy's medical care and vaccinations.
