With 12-puppy delivery, Humane Society again opens its arms to dog breeder's overflow.

Five trips. That's how many times a Wisconsin dog breeder has traveled to the Animal Humane Society in St. Paul, MN to surrender dogs he can no longer care for.

On May 29th he delivered 12 yellow Labrador retriever puppies bringing the total number of dogs -- of many breeds and ages saved to 132. Humane Society officials believe it's the largest number of animals saved by the agency in a case that didn't involve cruelty.

"We're not charging this man with anything," said Kathie Johnson, the Humane Society's animal services director. "We're grateful he came forward."

The man surrendered 25 dogs in March 2007 and has returned four times so far this year, Humane Society officials said. He surrendered 26 dogs on Jan. 30, 20 dogs on Feb. 6, 49 dogs on Feb. 14 and the 12 puppies.

Johnson said the puppies received some medical attention upon their arrival but are generally healthy. It will be at least three weeks before they're available for adoption.

Humane Society offices follow a "no questions asked" policy for commercial and private dog owners who need help but prefer to remain anonymous.  "We want the community to know we're a safe haven, no matter what," Johnson said.
