A horse head was found in a Councilwoman Gail Soro’s pool. Soro is the lone
Democrat on the 4-member Wawayanda Town Board. Soro believes that someone
was sending a message and that she had been harassed before – her car was
damaged while it was parked at Town Hall.
Wawayanda Investigators continue to try to determine whether any owners recently lost a horse whose severed head was found in the aboveground swimming pool of a Town Board Member in a rural Orange County Township. Wawayanda Councilwoman Gail Sorn and her husband found the horse’s head underwater in their pool on Tuesday morning, July 25th. They had used the pool the night before.
State Police Capt. Wayne Olson stated that they were trying to identify where the horse came from. They are continuing to interview veterinarians and horse farms. They would also like to hear from private owners who may be missing an animal to give them a call.
Capt. Olson stated that investigators are trying to determine how the horse died. They are not certain if this is an example of harassment and trespass or animal cruelty. It appeared that the horse had been dead for three or four days.
The case has drawn the attention of the FBI as well as the State Police.
